Cambridge - Sprachwoche der 6. Klassen in England

There is an Asian proverb that says: „It’s better to see something once, than to hear about it a thousand times“. The absolute best, of course, is a combination of the two, which is why we, the 6th form, consider ourselves very lucky that we were offered the possibility to spend a week in Cambridge after hearing and learning about it for a long time. Accompanied by our teachers Prof. OStR Mag. Gertrude Hauer, Prof. Mag. Dietmar Azesberger and Prof. Mag. Josef Höretzeder we spent a whole week improving our English, experiencing British culture and preparing for our presentations. Every morning we left our host families to go to Stafford House, our language school, where we developed presentation skills and prepared our project work. In the afternoons we made various excursions. The traditional punting, a beautiful Evensong in the famous King’s College or a Rugby game are only a few examples. Getting around in the city with our hired bikes turned out to be quite a challenge, considering people in England drive on the left-hand side.

Of course, we were also looking forward to our day-trip to London. Even though we experienced typical English weather, we managed to see a lot of the city’s most famous sights, we took pictures with the guards, were inspired by the Globe theatre, enjoyed the view from Sky garden and stood in awe of the Towerbridge. At the end of our stay, many very interesting topics were presented and it was really nice to see everyone’s hard work. Even though we were looking forward to coming home, we had thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are very grateful for having been given the opportunity. We took valuable experiences, great memories and the habit of drinking tea with milk home with us. (Magdalena Lorenz, 6a)
